How to Make Your Content Pop While Staying Professional

Let’s face it, you must have some sort of social media presence today to be considered a “real” company.  As a business owner or manager, your bread and butter is often determined by an increase in clientele and/or the retention of your current clients. You want to grow and expand your business and your reach, but how do you set yourself apart from your competition in the age of “influencer-dominated” social media? Marketing is a great tool to increase brand awareness and bring in new customers. There is no question that social media can dramatically increase the number of eyes on your brand, but are you struggling to create more content that will draw attention to your company, but also maintain professionalism? Let’s explore ways you can hop on some of the latest trends while staying true to your brand.

Give some free advice!

It may seem counterintuitive to give away knowledge for free when you are trying to make money selling your goods or services, but creating content that shows you as an expert in your field can draw a following. In the future, when those folks need help in your area of business, they’ll remember the information you shared and you could potentially earn new clients because of the information you gave away for free.

Trends come and go, but your brand should remain consistent.

There’s nothing wrong with featuring yourself or your staff doing the latest dance craze on social media if it doesn’t cause detriment to your brand. Some trends can make you and your staff seem more personable and friendly. However you want to be careful that the trendy Instagram reel or TikTok video you create doesn’t come across as inappropriate to some of your clients. For instance, many popular songs used in reels on social media contain vulgar lyrics. Does this align with your brand? Could your core clients be turned off by certain songs or dances? Always remember what you do on social media represents your business or company. You want to draw attention to your brand, but make sure the attention is positive in order to help you grow.

As you explore short format videos across multiple platforms here are some tips to remember:

  1. No holding or consuming alcohol (unless of course you’re in the business of selling alcohol).

  2. Avoid inappropriate attire.

  3. Censor profanity.

  4. Stay away from politics or religious comments (again, unless your business is politics or faith-based).

  5. Have FUN!

Remember, the ultimate goal is to get potential customers' eyes on your brand. Going viral may be great, but if it doesn’t help you gain more clients, is it really helpful?
